Obituary For Christy Harrington

On October 9, 1953, a diva in the making by the name of Christy Alexis Harrington was born to Curtis Harrington
Sr. and Moreine Dinwiddie Johnson, both of whom preceded her in death. Christy matriculated through the Indianapolis Public School system and graduated from Broad Ripple High School. Christy became a true social butterfly during high school and tales of the party she had where everyone was laid out on the front lawn of her house was one of her favorite stories to tell. This is where her love for hosting gatherings began! Christy was a very proud Broad Ripple Rocket and served on the alumni committee for many years and was excited to help plan the alumni activities including the annual picnic, Christy professed a belief in Jesus at an early age and was a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist church until her death. She was a member of several auxiliaries but especially enjoved singing with the Celestial Choir and lot #-acting as a big sister to many people in the congregation, She was a joyful worshiper and leaned into
her faith to get her through tough times. Christy furthered her education at Indiana State University (ISU) where she majored in Accounting. While at ISU, Christy pledged Sigma Gamma Rho and forged a strong sisterhood with her sorority sisters - some of whom
remained her closest friends for the rest of her life. Christy worked for General Motors in various departments for over 30 years. Christy was very active with the
United Auto Workers union and held various positions.
Christy's work with General Motors allowed her to be transterred to Beloit, Wisconsin and Ft. Wayne, Indiana where she was able to continue using her social butterfly
skills and developed amazing friendships with many people who became like family to her. After Christ retired from General Motors, she began working with Washington Township schools in Indianapo- lis as an Aide where she assisted students during their transportation and after school activities. She absolutely loved the students and her coworkers. She treated the students as if they were her grandchildren and spent many hours putting together treat bags for all the students for various holidays. She found great joy spending time with her coworkers and truly enjoyed her newfound family. During retirement, she also was a part of various social
clubs and was excited to plan and attend their events such as white parties and New Years Eve parties. Christy enjoyed life to the fullest and didn't meet a stranger. Christy had a special knack for making anyone feel like they were 10 feet tall and was very generous with sharing encouraging words with others. She provided
everyone around her with unconditional love, unwavering support, and a stern talking to when it was necessary. Christy also had a passion for having fun and loved hosting and attending card parties where she could showcase her master skills at Bid Whist and Dad. She looked forward to annual festivals such as the Indiana Black Expo,
Circle City Classic and Cincinnati Jazz Festival and went to great lengths to ensure a good time was had by all. While Christy had many ways to show love to others, cooking and gift giving were her true love languages. Christy loved to host gatherings where she could make some of her delicious food such as her famous baked beans, sweet potatoes and bread pudding and she would prepare special drinks with the cute umbrellas in them. She also loved giving gifts and was known throughout the city for the spectacular gift baskets she created. Even in her final months, Christy was creating baskets for her care team at the hospital as a show of gratitude. Christy's love for
others was so abundant that she was affectionately given the nickname of "Christy Love. It is not possible to talk about Christy and not talk about her style! Christy's mother, Moreine, took great delight in dressing her in the best outfits when Christy was a child. This set the standard for Christy for the rest of her
life. Christy LOVED to shop! She would hit the shopping streets first thing in the morning and close the stores.
Many sales associates knew her by name and she knew exactly when to go to Von Maur for that third markdown! Christy did not leave the house - not even to run a simple errand - without being dressed to the mines and having her hair dyed, fried and laid to the side! Christy was known for her impeccable personal style. When Christy walked into a room, every head turned to look at her amazing ensemble. But as Christy stayed in the room,
everyone fell in love with her warm, inviting, and fun spirit. Christy took on the role of matriarch for her family after her mother passed away and she took great pride in that role and had a deep devotion and love for her family that she showed every day in small and large ways. She will
be dearly missed by all who knew her. Christy leaves to cherish her wonderful memory: daughter, Crystal Harrington; brothers, Curtis Harrington (DeLisa), Craig Harrington (Ivonne), and Claude Harrington (Brenda); sisters, Arlene Johnson, and Arlette Johnson; a special grand dog Codi Capone, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and an extensive network of
friends who were more like family.
