Obituary For Ulysses Purcell Pullum, Jr.

MR. ULYSSES PURCELL PULLUM, JR. – AGE 70, - Of Rome, Georgia and formerly of Calhoun, Georgia passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2022. He was born on March 24, 1952 to his late parents, father, Ulysses Purcell Pullum, Sr., and mother, Annie Ophelia Upshaw. He graduated from Calhoun High School, and was a member of Porch Chapel United Methodist Church.

Survivors are his daughter, Tina (Anthony) Gracie of Newnan, Georgia; one granddaughter, Madashia Garnigan; sisters, Mary Louise Upshaw of Rome, Georgia, Elizabeth Ann Printup of Calhoun, Georgia; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Homegoing Celebration will be on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at 3:00 P. M. at the Chapel of Willis Funeral Home, Inc., 2011 Martin L. King, Jr., Blvd., Dalton, Georgia, 30721 with Bishop Claud Jones as Eulogist. The family will receive friends at the funeral home thirty minutes before the service. Mary, Elizabeth, Tina, my deepest sympathy to you and your family. I could not have ask for better neighbors. As a young girl (teenager)I had to scat. I ran into y'all's home. Purcell mat me at the door. He ask nothing,(but)knew all. He sat me down,and stood beside me( never left my side)till safety..MY HERO!!!I am reminded of the scripture where GOD says,I AM a refuge in time of trouble, and another JESUS said I am the door. Y'ALL'S HOME MY REFUGE AND PURCELL AT THE DOOR. "YOU DO THE MATH". LOVE ALWAYS, "KIDRO"( I'LL NEVER FORGET)

I was very sorry to hear the news yesterday of the passing of Purcell. We literally grew up together and we didn't call him Purcell. "Big Moma" called him Junior and that's what we called him as kids. We later called him Moose. I have no idea where that name came from. We used to stand in front of this large mirror at Big Moma's house and sing. My most vivid memory of that was once when we sang "Stand By Me." You had a tough life Moose and now it's time for you to rest and there will be only peace for now. Steve
