Wallace Spencer, Sr.

Obituary

Wallace Spencer, Sr. was born in Quitman, GA on September 16, 1927 to the late Carl and Annie Mae Spencer. He was the eldest son of nine children born of this union. Wallace matriculated through the Brooks County Public School System.

Wallace married the love of his life, Mary Davis Spencer, on December 9, 1950. To their union, eight children were born: Eddie, Johnny, Wallace, Joyce, Michael, Stephen, Merrill and Rodriguez.

During his life, he worked at the Elsberry Sawmill before moving on to his love of farm work. He also worked at the A. J. Powell Farm Supply, where he provided a living for his family until his father’s passing. He then took over the reins of the family farm. With the help of the good Lord, Wallace was able to successfully grow a variety of vegetables and raise several different kinds of livestock for public and private use during his farming career. He was well known for his handmade cane syrup that he harvested and manufactured right from his family farm. Life was hard but he knew God was with him. He stayed the course of being a loyal son, husband, and father until God called him home.

Wallace gave his life to Christ at an early age and became a faithful member of Bethany Missionary Baptist Church in Quitman, GA where he served for many years under the leadership of Reverend Bass. During his tenure at Bethany, he was called to become a deacon. He faithfully served in this capacity until his health began to fail.

He was a strong, quiet loving man and he showed that love not only to his family but to everyone he met.
