Ernest Charles McAfee, 76 of Richmond, passed away June 17th at the Hospice Center in Richmond, Kentucky. A private visitation for family will be held at 1:00 with a memorial service for family and friends at 2:00 on Tuesday, June 22nd 2021 at Franklin R. Sousley Campus Chapel on Leestown Road in Lexington, Kentucky.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Church McAfee, stepchildren Amy Sexton (Donnie), Lorie Sumpter, and Damon Sumpter (Diana), all of Eolia, Kentucky along with 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. In addition, Ernest is survived by two sisters, Mary Isabelle Duff (Earl) and Margaret Rose Rice (Gene) and many special nieces and nephews along with a host of friends who adored Ernest.

Ernest is preceded in death by a stepson, Travis McDaniels, his brother James Franklin McAfee, his first wife Shirley Smith McAfee, and his parents, Leonard Leslie and Gladys Hammond McAfee.

Ernest attended Hardburly Elementary school, Hazard High school, and Eastern Kentucky University. Ernest served in the Army as an infantry Ranger during Vietnam.

Ernest retired from Central Kentucky processing in Lexington, Kentucky. He enjoyed traveling, music, cooking, the U.K Wildcats, and shopping for his various collections of his vast interests. Ernest was also active in the libertarian party.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations and contributions to be made in Ernest’s name to a local animal shelter for Ernie’s love of animals, or to a local hospice center, and/or local Veteran’s Center of your choosing.
